Changes to My Yahoo!.

Hi everyone,

You may have noticed that a few things have changed on the header of your My Yahoo! page. We have been working to make it easier for you to find, discover, and add great content to your page.

In the header, you will see three new options, “Add Content,” “Change Appearance,” and “More Options.” With this new setup, you’re only one click away from making your page truly feel like home.

We’ve also made it easier to distinguish among your multiple My Yahoo! pages. With this new “tabbed” design, your additional pages will be separated as tabs that you can easily navigate. You will still be able to select a theme and layout for each unique page. Oh, and adding a tab is as simple as clicking “New Tab” at the right of your page tabs.

We are working on some other changes to My Yahoo!, so be sure to check in for future blog posts on these updates. Also, welcome to any international My Yahoo! fans who are seeing the new My Yahoo! for the first time!

For now, enjoy the new layout and comment on this post with your feedback.

  1. I like the new layout. At least i don’t need to have several pages open at a time again.

  2. I think the new layout is great, but what I would really like to see, is a place for your Yahoo! avatar. I would love to have the full picture of the avatar on the My Yahoo! page (not just the tiny picture with the head). I noticed today that the tiny picture was missing, so even the link to the avatar is now gone. I find that very inconvenient, especially since I love to change my avatar almost daily and love looking at it. I consider it a part of my theme, like changing the backgroud for different holidays. So, please put this back on the main page. Thanks in advance!

  3. I really like it! Especially the quicklinks - they are much faster now and the whole thing feels tighter. Thank you!

  4. How do I switch back to the old “classic” layout? There used to be a link on the main page to switch but that’s now gone.

  5. I think it’s great that changes are being made. My suggestions are for yahoo to definately add more backgrounds to the page weekly. Another suggestion is that for the yahoo movie recommendations, there should be a module for that. Keep up the good work. Thanks!

  6. I’d really love to see “messenger” remaining logged in from tab to tab; I have it on each of my tabs but have to open a new window for another tab to keep from logging out.

I like the new header feature, and a cool hello to our international friends now using MyYahoo

  8. I guess this is something I will have to get used to!! I had gotten so used to having the adverts, then today, I sign in and there’s.. NOTHING! wow! I started wondering, what’s wrong with this site.. then I saw the blog post, and knew.. you’ve been busy!!!!

    good work

  9. I would still like to have a filter for how recent posts have been published (like in the old version) and also if posts have already been read. Any chance these will return? This will cut down the size of the page if you look at it often during the day. Thank you.

  10. I like the new Yahoo! expect for one thing: The avatar link is gon! I love personalizing my avatar and recently Yahoo! doesnt give me an option to play with it!! Im very upset about this and I hope the people at Yahoo! can bring the avatar back!!

  11. The first thing I noticed was that my Avatar was missing…. it is such a nice personal thing to view and change daily, according to my moods!! Will you be putting our Avatars back?? Please?? Otherwise, I am getting used to the changes and appreciate that you all are trying to make our Yahoo! front page more user-friendly and accessible to what we, individually, want to search out every day… Please put our Avatars back!!

  12. I also miss my avatar. My home page and mail page seem very
plain without the picture. I would also like a place for a full size
avatar. When I used google for my home page, I could add a lot
more content than I can with Yahoo.

  13. I like all the changes. However, there needs to be a way to re-order existing tabs! I have not been able to figure out a way to do this. Please add this feature!

  14. I agree with Gabriel 100%. That filter was nice in the old version. It did save time. Thank you for all the work you do.

  15. Thanks for everyone’s comments on the beta and our most recent changes. Some of you were concerned that you couldn’t switch back to the original My Yahoo!, so I want to provide a link you can use: http://cm.my.yahoo.com/switch.

Keep in mind that our goal with this beta process is to build a great product by sharing the journey with you, so please continue to send your feedback. We have incorporated a lot of your input into the new design, and you will see even more changes in the coming weeks.

    Regards,

  16. Another thing I would like to see is a module where you could add customized/themed countdowns and tickers. It would be so nice to count down to a special anniversary, vacation, event, holiday, etc. months in advance!

  17. I would like more customisation ability for page and header colors, fonts, etc.

  18. I did switch back to the “old” Yahoo. If it changes, I’m gone. Just
call me a stick in the mud.

  19. I, too, miss the Avatar link! I change my avatar daily, and I hate not having a link on My Yahoo!, even though the previous pic-link was too small. Please add a module to link and see our current avatar, perhaps even show updates and additions to avatar add-ons!

  20. can u add more background themes video section like yahoo video and youtube come on yahoo

    Comment by hey — June 29, 2008 #

  21. You need to have more options for backgrounds. I had been using the blue one, but now the text color for new and ‘used’ links is virtually the same. I like being able to see what I’ve clicked on easier than this new page allows.

    Comment by JD — June 29, 2008 #

  22. The new layout is opkay, but I preffered the way the Bookmarks where listed. Its harder to get around on the the way they are listed now.

    Comment by Billy — June 29, 2008 #

  23. The new layout is nice, but why did you guys change the “Olive” theme? Now the main color is a green or something rather than the old black background. This makes it tougher to read.

  25. […] Heavenly headers: Scrolling is out, tabs are in. That’s why My Yahoo! has spruced up its header with a new tabbed design, letting you create additional customized My Yahoo! pages to your heart’s delight. Just click “new tab,” name your tab, add content, and set up your page’s appearance. You can have up to nine My Yahoo! tabs, compartmentalizing your many interests to specific pages. Now you can finally keep your tattoo passion neatly separated from your knitting obsession. More here. […]

  26. New site is better with recent additions/changes BUT it’s still not as good as the old My Yahoo. It takes longer to load and there is frequently a delay in catching up to my scrolling. I try to scroll down (or up) and the site takes 2 - 3 seconds to realize and then it catches up. “Lag time” is the best way to describe it.

    Comment by Dave — July 4, 2008 #

  27. Seems kind of sluggish to me. I can’t spend more than an hour with it before reverting to “Classic”.

Comment by JG in SC — July 6, 2008 #

  28. I would like a way to move the add content, change appearance, more options to the bottom of the page. It’s right there in my face and… well not the most attractive thing to be staring at. I don’t tend to change things all the time so if it were at the bottom I would know where to look but I wouldn’t have to stare at it all the time. Like many others I miss my avatar, she’s grown to represent my outlook on life on any particular day, an option for the full size one would be great but even the little one is sorely misses.

    Comment by Terry — July 7, 2008 #

  29. Yes please bring back the avatar…..

  30. I don’t not care for the backgrounds. In the old version I had stars and stripes, and the new version of that is not the same. I do not like any of the other backgrounds because the type is so faint you can barely read it.

    Comment by Maureen — July 8, 2008 #

  31. Please include “Green Tea” in the background choices, and some additional backgrounds that are less “jump off the screen” vibrant. Thanks!

  32. Please allow us to move the “personal assistant” to the left side to see if mail comes in.
Using the “mail preview” does not give enough privacy when homepage is left open to use throughout the day.
I can only see out of my left eye and like to see when mail comes in.
    Thank you.

  33. How can I re-import/re-transfer my old (”classic”) MyYahoo data?

I tried out the new site quite a while back, didn’t like it (requires too much screen real estate, other stuff I emailed feedback about) and have modified my active (”classic”) page a lot since then. The “new” My Yahoo does not represent what I currently want on my page. Can I wipe and re-transfer my configuration?

  39. Help!!! The link to switch back to Classic is not working any more.

I’m glad some people like the new layout, personally I don’t at all.

  40. It looks great, but
I used to get real time quotes on the portfolios
and also the Company News does not have an option to show the last 24 hours, so it making my page very long to show and very bad to look into.
So if my old page was faster, and better and I dont think that the looks make up for what i am missing

    Comment by Mohamed — July 16, 2008 #

  41. I am glad people like the new as well, but I agree with others, I do not, as it takes more real estated, IN th stock areas, colors are very hard to read. fonts also hard to read,

  42. I added the TO DO LIST to my page. How do you get the job to do ,off , when you finished with it? I still want the added to do list but I want the list gone.
