Lots of modules? No problem!

It’s time to acknowledge my problem: I’m an information junky. Whether it’s scanning news headlines or mainlining my 99 favorite blogs, I am all over the Internet, all the time. It’s not healthy.

For the sake of my own sanity, I’ve been craving a way to keep all these sites in one place, but organized into different categories. This way, I could find what I need, when I wanted, without heavy searching or bookmarking.

I took a bold step towards that goal when I started using multiple pages on My Yahoo!. Now, I can keep all of my everyday content on the “My Front Page,” and I can categorize my favorite blogs in the extra pages (yes, like the newspaper!). :-)

To add another page to your My Yahoo!, click on the “Add Page” button in the navigation bar just below the Search box.

You can personalize your new page too…

* Add modules and change the color and layout of your page
* Move modules between pages by dragging and dropping them onto the page name
* Rename your new page at any time by clicking on the page name

Adding another page – or even several pages – is such a quick and simple way to keep all your content organized. And if you’re a media obsessive like me, that can mean the difference between a data death spiral and information Nirvana. Try it out!

  1. Any word on when the My Beta Yahoo thing is going to get fixed? It’s been broke for 4 months or more, hijacking us from our regularly scheduled (and visited) web portal page. As it is, we have reverted to using google, MSN, or other portal pages.

4 months is a significant time for a website to be broken. May as well just advertise for other portal sites at this point, cause driving your customers away, is what you are doing. And this REALLY sucks cause I am still paying for this lack of service, but who knows how much longer I will hold out hope that it gets fixed.

The “blog” section keeps having people post that claim to be part of the product team. People respond to your posts, yet, nothing gets fixed. Same is true on the suggestion board, and attempting to contact tech support for an answer is fruitless cause they can’t speak english.

ANY word on when it’s going to be fixed would go a long way in reassuring your customers that you are working on what we are paying you to do…

  2. You say in this blog that we can “customize” our theme. How is that possible? Can we change the background color? Can we add whatever we want? How exactly do we customize our theme? Using your preset themes is not what I call customization.

  3. Hi Jeff,

You’re right; you can’t “customize” in that sense of the definition. We’ll make a change to the blog post to avoid confusion.

You can, however, personalize the color of your page in the following ways: change the color to one of the 10 new colors available, make your theme a textured or seasonal background, or even select one of the colors from the original My Yahoo!. In total, you have 62 different color and theme options.

Just click on the “Personalize this Page” button at the top of your page above your modules. Under the heading “Change Color,” you’ll find different backgrounds to chose from. Thanks for your comment!

  4. We used to be able to “customize” the appearance of the MyYahoo! homepage with the old version. It would be great if the “new” version would eventually get that. Also, an outer space theme would be cool…

  5. And by “customize” I mean change the font color and the background color of modules or make them transparent I believe. You know, all the stuff you can do with the old version.

  6. Your just like me, an info junkie. It must be a small world you know, finding a lot of people who are a lot like you. Being an info junkie goes bad when all the information is everywhere, and you can’t organize it. But that’s really interesting, you being an info junkie. BYE!!!

  7. Is there any way that I can change the order of the different modules? I thought that I was able to change the order before I switched to the yahoo beta.

If there isn’t a way to change the order, I would definitely like to make the suggestion that you do so!

    Thanks!

  8. This is actually a helpful tip. Because I now have different pages, my main page loads up much faster.

But Eric…when are you guys going to fix the “Team Calendar” module? Ever since the new version of MyYahoo came out, the Team Calendar module has always said “we’re working away on a new, improved version of this content. It will automatically appear in this spot when it becomes available”.

Well, almost a year later, where is it?

  9. I have too many yahoo bars on the top of my web page. How can I delete all but one.

    Comment by Ruby — March 4, 2008 #

  10. Megan: Yes, you absolutely can reorder the content on your page, and it’s easier then ever. Just click on the title bar of any module and drag it to the position you’d like on the page.

  11. John: We definitely haven’t forgotten about Team Calendars. In fact, we’re working hard with Yahoo! Sports to develop improved team schedules modules. When we roll out the new schedules in the next few weeks, you’ll be able to keep your favorite teams’ schedules wherever you choose, even across multiple pages! Thanks for your patience and for the comment.

  12. It would help to have the most recent update listed next to the title in RSS feed modules. To save space, I like to keep my RSS modules minimized/collapsed, with only the title showing. Right now, I have to open/expand each module to see if the feed has been updated. It would be nice to just scan the titles, see which ones have been updated recently, and just expand those modules.

  14. How do I delete unwanted modules? Why is it giving me sports scores I didn’t ask for, and don’t show up on the old version? What happened to the edit buttons? Thanks

    Comment by Dave — March 8, 2008 #

  15. Hey Dave, at the top right hand corner of your modules are three icons. They are (in order), “Refresh Module,” “Edit Module Preferences,” and “Delete Module.” Try them out, they should be able to help you organize your page.

  16. Eric -
I want to know if I can reorder my Y! pages, not just rearrange the content modules on each page. (Refer to Megan’s comment above.) I’ve tried clicking and dragging, attempting to move one page to another position (e.g., moving my “sports” page from it’s current position to 2nd, etc.). If it’s available, then could you please tell me where I can enable it? Or if it’s not currently available, could that feature be included in the “Personalize Your Page” Menu? Please!

  19. Hi Eric

Been a My Yahoo page subscriber for a while and really spend alot of time on my portal page. Something happened to the layout when I logged in yesterday. The avatar image is huge. Modules won’t load and the links to add content are dead. I am trying to narrow down the cause and pulled up the same site on a different computer…looks fine. Changed the color on the new computer without a hitch.

Any tips on backing up rss feeds in case I have to “86″ the original?

    Thanks
    Bill
