Your page, collapsed.

I love My Yahoo!, but at times I get a little overwhelmed with all the good stuff on my page. I do have over 18 modules after all. So every once in a while I collapse some of my modules. “What’s that you say? Collapse your modules?” Absolutely, I collapse my modules. It’s an easily-overlooked feature, so I thought I’d share.

You can “collapse” or hide the module content. At the upper left of the module, in front of the module title, there is a down arrow. See below (outlined in orange):

Clicking it rolls up or hides the content…

This is great for those seldom-read modules you can’t bring yourself to delete (and even the content that may be less suitable for work!). The best part is you can still link to the source because the title is still clickable (for most RSS feeds, anyway).

So play around and let us know what you think.

  1. I have a module feature request.

Can you make new items since last visit or last refesh look bold, or put a new tag in front of the item?

    Thanks.

  3. I have another request please - can you bring back a feature that was present in the original My Yahoo? This was the ability to filter for recent content by the length of time since it had been posted (e.g. within the last 6 hours). This was v. useful to reduce the number of feeds on a page, especially if the page was open all day whilst working.

    Many thanks

  4. Dear Yahoo

Thank you for this new site. It is very very nice. All the different ways I can make it look are fun ot maybe I must say wonderful and that is saying the least I am not sure what the words are for saying the most. For now I must go and eat some toast and play with my new site. Maybe after a bite I will come back and leave many more words for you and others if others are able to read this blogs.

  5. Collapsing would be more useful if there were a “collapse all” function. Working with modules one by one is tedious.

  6. Totally agree. This is a much desired feature for me. However, in order to give peace to those who don’t want this, MyYahoo could make this feature optional.

    Comment by Ziru — January 9, 2008 #

  7. This would be much more useful if there were an indicator on the title bar to let us know if there was content within the time frame settings (items from the past n days). Otherwise we have to peek (expand) to see if there’s anything new.

    That’s working harder, not smarter.

  8. Can you add a feature that hides a headline if is has been read. The old version of MyYahoo had this and it was very useful. Only unread headlines could be shown. Thanks

    Good work.

  9. The refresh on the new MyYahoo! is not nearly as reliable as it used to be. I am all for the AJAX updates, but they seem to stop working after a while. Maybe throw in a full refresh every 1/2 or so?

  13. What happened to the ablity to move around modules/stuff add to my yahoo on our pages? One day we were able to do this now for about a month or so I have not been to. Wuz up wit dat. Please bring this back. Also need to speed up adding more customize options i mean being to change colors and backgrounds. The old my yahoo had alot better selection than now. Also it be cool to add our own backgrounds and not have to choose from the slim pickings there is now.

  14. Hey everyone,

Great comments and feedback! This stuff really helps us see what you need and want on your pages, like being able to view read/un-read content within your modules. The more feedback you give us, the better we can plan product upgrades and make any changes.

    Keep it coming!

Bring back the functional version, before the beta, so we can actually use the website we are paying for would be a start.

Or even just let us know you are working on a fix for it…

  22. I completely concur with Jade’s comments from yesterday. Can you bring this function back? It would make a very functional page more fun. I would like to be able to move my RSS feed modules off of the main My Yahoo page to my personalized My yahoo pages based on need or use or just to mix it up.

  37. Hey,
I desperately needed an online feed reader and I tried My Yahoo. I liked the features and I figured out how to add and remove modules and colapse them and chage layout etc. I was pretty cool presentation wise but DEAD slow.
I am afraid I had to move over to Google Reader. Guve me one good reason why I shoudl come back??

  38. I love the new features for the new my yahoo pages. the callaps feature is awesome and i love how you can drag and drop the modules to where ever you want them on the page it makes it so easy to rearrange them to suit how it is ordered on the page. I do hope to see more holiday themes soon specially for Valentine’s day and easter but i do love the ones that are there now. Great job on the new page. I just wish i could have the extended horoscope choices like for your work week, romance and things like that to show on this page like i could on the other my yahoo before the upgrade. but that’s ok. The new update is awesome!! Great job.
