Given that the word “My” plays fairly prominently in the “My Yahoo!” logo we stick all over the place, we figure it made sense to work hard on actually making it yours. And one thing we keep hearing again and again (from My Yahoo! users everywhere) is that you like your modules. Especially useful modules.

The bottom line is, if we expect you to make My Yahoo! your home on the Web, then we need to deliver the content that’s important to your life. Hence we’re working around the clock to add more and more relevant modules to choose from. The list keeps growing, but to whet your appetite here are a handful of new modules that are ready and waiting (available only in the new My Yahoo! beta):

  • Your Mail: Preview messages from other email accounts (including Gmail), right on your page.
  • Scoreboard: Stay up-to-date on the latest scores and news. Now with more game details right on your page.
  • Weather: We’ve made it even easier to stay in-the-know. Now you can see current conditions and a 3 day forecast at a glance.
    Weather Module
  • Netflix: If you have a Netflix account, you’re gonna love this. See which movies are in your queue (and add to it!), what’s at home, and what new movies are available — all from one tidy module.

We’ve been burning the midnight oil, working on these modules too: Calendar and Address Book. Oh, and we’re not quite done with the new Bookmarks, but we think you’ll love the new options (like the ability to use it as a stand-alone module).

When more modules become available, we’ll let you know. And feel free to make suggestions about modules or anything you want to see in the new My Yahoo!.

  1. Is there a Yahoo 360 module in the works?

    Comment by Randy Tuggle — June 13, 2007 #

  2. Wow…. a lot of great features. Even better than iGoogle. Keep it up you yahoos. Thanks!!!

  3. It’s a shame you modified the weather module because we can only see the temperature and the forecast for the first city now, if we have various cities we don’t see forecast for them (sunny/cloudy/…) anymore.

  5. When can we expect integration of Yahoo! Widgets into MyYahoo? I hate seeing Live.com and Google beating Yahoo! in this space since you were so well positioned to dominate it before either of them when you acquired Konfabulator.

Also, is this blog’s appearance a sign of things to come for Yahoo!360? I hope so - it looks great.

    Keep up the good work!

  6. Any chance of a Blockbuster Queue module like the Netflix?

  7. Okay, I’ll leave the first comment. Way to go, My Yahoo! team.

But my question is this, when will I be able to develop modules myself for My Yahoo? Is there an API for me to develop rich, interactive modules myself?

  8. When I try the My Yahoo beta link, I get a message that it’s available only in certain countries…what countries is it available in??

    Comment by Alan — June 14, 2007 #

  9. Colleen from the My Yahoo! team here. Thanks for the new module ideas (e.g. 360, Blockbuster, etc.). Note, the new beta is available for the US, for now. Look for more info in coming months.

  10. Coleen;
Are you addressing the lengthy load time? And can you re-size the columns- DOONESBURY gets chopped off 2/3’s thru the strip.

  11. I was disappointed to see the removal of the team logos from the scoreboard module. I really really REALLY loved it, and was one of the things that I preferred here over iGoogle.

Is there any chance they can be restored, or failing that at least give me a toggle to see them? I can’t imagine I’m the only one who was disappointed to see them go.

  14. The new MyYahoo Beta is great, but the one thing I really miss from the old one was the stock charts. Now we can only get stock quotes. These are not nearly as useful. When will you bring stock charts to the new MyYahoo Beta?
    Thanks.

    Comment by AM — June 26, 2007 #

  15. I just noticed that you added new pop up charts to the finance module. This is moving in the right direction, but is there anyway to configure them? Right now they are all set to intra-day charts - which are useless for all but the hyperactive day trader, who is not going to be using MyYahoo anyway. The old MyYahoo allowed us to set the time range on the chart, e.g. past 12 months. This is much more useful.

  16. I agree with the comment about the stock charts. The old ones..separated..were so easy to read. It was easy to see where it left off the night before to where it was at current time. The new one in beta is pretty impossible to read..all squished together. I hope to see improvement there.

  17. Another thing I just noticed: the currency converter can no longer be customized as it could in the original MyYahoo. Now I am stuck with default currencies like the Euro, Yen, etc, which may have no relevance to me whatsoever. In the original MyYahoo, it was possible to customize this and pick the currencies one wanted displayed. I hope you will restore this functionality.

Looks good! Very useful, good stuff. Good resources here. Thanks much!

  19. As usual when you tinker with My Yahoo, the cities in the weather module get screwed up and there’s no way to change it! I don’t want to know the weather of a city I only had to visit once! Somehow, when I typed in an address to see how to get there, the system kept it as my “original” destination and I keep getting the forecast for over there. Grrr! Learn how to upgrade and stop messing up my city!!!! This isn’t the first time this goof happened when you rearranged My Yahoo. Cut it out!

  22. I love the new My Yahoo!, but I miss the “Local / City Guide” module and would also find it useful to have a “Maps & Directions” module. Please add!

  23. The Market Summary can no longer be customized to display the market index and graphs like in the original My Yahoo.

    Comment by Eddie Teo — August 22, 2007 #

  24. Please, please bring back the stock charts. That was my favorite feature on my “My Yahoo!” page.

    Comment by Don — August 31, 2007 #

  25. I NEED the “Market Summary” back! I find it un-service like to just remove it, with no explanation, since it was SUCH a great feature. Come on,… put it back.

  26. I second both stock charts and currency converter customization functions, please restore these!

  27. New Yahoo tends to freeze and is often slow.
Bring back previous market summary with charts.
Also weather module fails to load and I can’t seem to show my city (Montreal).
What was wrong with the old My Yahoo which I adored and never failed me

  32. I also have a comment about the missing stock charts. I don’t understand why I can get the Market summary with pre-determined chart of DJI but not the market summary with my own choice of a stock chart and quotes that comes up on my Yaho Finance site? If I could get the same market summary from yahoo Finance this would be perfect, now it’s unusable for me.
