What in the world?

Our editors have long known that the universe of people who use My Yahoo! is full of variety — not only do you use your My Yahoo! pages for different purposes, but you read them to keep up on news from different countries (and sometimes in languages other than English). That’s why we’ve added an international category to our content directory. Now you can browse for modules by region and country.
We asked our fellow Yahoos around the world for their favorite feeds by and about the people where they live, and collected them for your browsing pleasure. Tour around and add some international flavor to your page! And as always, let us know what you think.

Since My Yahoo! is your home on the Web, we figured we should make it easier for you to get comfy. So we set out to give you better ways to customize your page. Around here, we call it the inline extravaganza. That’s how we refer to letting you do more on your page itself, or inline.
No more navigating off your page to add content, change your layout, modify your settings or see what your page would look like in a new color. Now, all that is possible right from your page.

But we didn’t think that was quite enough. So we added a reader option that lets you view articles without leaving your page. Then we created module-specific controls (like how many items you want displayed in a module). Oh, and we improved the article previews (the little snippets that show up when you mouse over a headline) too.
We hope you like what we’ve done with the place.

Huddled in the back room while observing a focus group of My Yahoo! users last year, we were a little surprised to hear that their most-requested feature was “drag-and-drop.”
“We have that now!” we said to each other — our mouths full of M&Ms. Now that we know how much you care about this feature, we started working on ways to make it even better (not to mention, ways to let you know we have it).
In the My Yahoo! Beta, you may have noticed a few (if subtle) improvements. Now you have more freedom to move modules where you want them (no more Narrow/Wide column limitations). There are also indicators to let you know when you’re in “drag-and-drop” mode (four way arrow), and where you’re about to place a module (a blue bar in most page colors).
So go ahead. Move things around. Then move them again…

This week, CNET announced that My Yahoo! is a Webware 100 Award winner in the browsing category. Here’s a little bit about the award.
The “Webware 100″ Awards is the first user-generated Web 2.0 awards program, recognizing the best Web 2.0 sites, services, and applications. Over 5,000 sites were nominated. Webware.com editors selected finalists which were featured in an online voting poll, where users voted and ultimately selected 100 winners in 10 categories. See the complete list of WebWare 100 winners.

Want meaty new modules? You got it.

Given that the word “My” plays fairly prominently in the “My Yahoo!” logo we stick all over the place, we figure it made sense to work hard on actually making it yours. And one thing we keep hearing again and again (from My Yahoo! users everywhere) is that you like your modules. Especially useful modules.
The bottom line is, if we expect you to make My Yahoo! your home on the Web, then we need to deliver the content that’s important to your life. Hence we’re working around the clock to add more and more relevant modules to choose from. The list keeps growing, but to whet your appetite here are a handful of new modules that are ready and waiting (available only in the new My Yahoo! beta):
- Your Mail: Preview messages from other email accounts (including Gmail), right on your page.
- Scoreboard: Stay up-to-date on the latest scores and news. Now with more game details right on your page.
- Weather: We’ve made it even easier to stay in-the-know. Now you can see current conditions and a 3 day forecast at a glance.
- Netflix: If you have a Netflix account, you’re gonna love this. See which movies are in your queue (and add to it!), what’s at home, and what new movies are available — all from one tidy module.
We’ve been burning the midnight oil, working on these modules too: Calendar and Address Book. Oh, and we’re not quite done with the new Bookmarks, but we think you’ll love the new options (like the ability to use it as a stand-alone module).
When more modules become available, we’ll let you know. And feel free to make suggestions about modules or anything you want to see in the new My Yahoo!.
